Advisory firm Teneo Holdings has opened an office in Toronto and has hired John Crean, the former national managing partner of National Public Relations, as its managing director.
Crean joined National in 1992 and held a number of senior roles. He left the firm last month.
“Teneo brings to the Canadian market a unique strategic advisory offering, focusing primarily on CEOs, boards and C-suite executives,” said James Crossland, who will lead the new Toronto office as its senior managing director and chairman, in a statement. Crossland was previously the executive vice-president, corporate affairs at the mining firm Kinross Gold.
“Our objective is to provide senior Canadian executives with world-class strategic advice on business and reputational issues, both in Canada and in markets around the world where Canadian companies have operations or interests,” Crossland said.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in New York City, Teneo’s clients include the CEOs of many Fortune 100 companies. With the addition of Toronto, Teneo now has more than 570 employees and a presence in 15 markets.
“Canada is a key market for Teneo. Not only do many of our clients have operations in Canada, but Canadian companies are deeply tied to global markets through trade and foreign investment,” said Declan Kelly, the company’s chairman and CEO. “Our team in Toronto, together with Teneo’s global platform, is uniquely placed to provide seamless world class advisory services to both Canada-based companies, as well as multinational corporations.”
Andrea Mandel-Campbell has also been hired as senior vice-president. Like Crossland, Mandel-Campbell was most recently with Kinross Gold and was the company’s vice-president, corporate communications. Prior to joining Kinross, she was director of communications for the Secretary of the Treasury Board in Ottawa and is a former business journalist.
