Mr. Sub appoints new brand vice-president

A new marketing exec to lead a branding overhaul

Jason Brading has been named the new brand vice-president for the Mr. Sub quick serve restaurant chain.

Brading has spent most of the past 12 years working for the Imvescor Restaurant Group, franchisor for Baton Rouge, Pizza Delight, Mikes, and Scores, most recently serving as president or “brand leader” of the Baton Rouge chain.

Brading, who began work Tuesday, said he and his marketing team are planning to refresh the Mr. Sub brand, first launched in 1968.

“It’s the next generation that we’re looking to launch here, a new concept, tweaking the menu, trying to evolve it,” Brading said. “It’s like many brands out there, the maturity cycle has come and it needs re-kindling.

“There’s a big challenge, it’s a competitive segment like most segments are nowadays. We’re up against a big machine, which is Subway, and we’re going to try to out-maneuver them here.”

Brading takes over the executive marketer position from Stephen Czetyrbok.

There are roughly 330 Mr. Sub restaurants across Canada, with about 60% of those in Ontario. The chain is owned by Montreal-based MTY Group, which also franchises and operates quick-service restaurants such as Tiki Ming, Thai Express, Yogen Fruz, Sushi Shop and Koya Japan.
