On The Move: Changes at Shopify, Kijiji, Clever Samurai

A weekly update of who's headed where in Canadian marketing and communications

Shopify promoted chief product officer HARLEY FINKELSTEIN to COO. As the company’s first chief operating officer, Finkelstein will manage corporate and business development, sales, Shopify Plus, the Shopify Partner program, Shopify’s app store, merchant support and all external and merchant-facing initiatives. He has been with Shopify since 2010.

Lots of hiring news out of Kijiji recently. KEVIN HUGHES joined as sales excellence manager, a role designed to help the company’s sales teams be more efficient and effective. He previously held a similar role at Microsoft. The online classified service also added three business development managers: VIRGIE VAN DEN CORPUT, GENEVIEVE MICHAUD and LINDA BEVACQUA. Van Den Corput, fomerly on the Kijiji autos team as an account manager, will be in charge of display. Michaud and Bevacqua, both coming from Olive Media, will be responsible for display. Michaud gained experience in providing advertising solutions to clients. Bevacqua was a strategic account executive. Additionally, MY LE joined the Kijiji team as an ad operations specialist. Previously at GroupM Canada, Le will provide support to various teams to help drive results and deliver against targets. PAUL NOWOSAD was named head of product solutions. With senior experience at YellowPages, TransGaming Inc., OLG and Yahoo, he will build unique and innovative ways for businesses to succeed on Kijiji, eBay, and StubHub.

Clever Samurai added two account directors: JOHN HUGHSON of Interbrand and BBDO and JOANNA CARBAJAL of Sandbox Advertising/Brandworks. Hughson has 15 years of agency experience with brands like Samsung, British Airways, Visa and TD Bank. Carbajal has 10 years of agency experience with brands like Cuba Tourism, Scotiabank International and Christian Children’s Fund. Hughson will support Clever Samurai’s clients in the energy and industrial sectors, while Carbajal will support clients in technology and business services.

The Canadian Marketing Association named LUCY COLLIN as director of member engagement, and has been mandated to engage with members to help them achieve their business objectives. She was most recently a VP at Bell Media, and was previously the publisher of Marketing.

Dentsu Aegis Network Canada announced JOHN STOCKWELL as its chief talent officer and CAROLINE GIANIAS as its chief performance officer. Stockwell has more than 20 years in the talent sector at a broad range of national and international companies. He was most recently vice-president of human resources, Americas at Open Text Corporation. Gianias has been with the network since 1997 and has an extensive background in all facets of media including strategy, activation, finance, client servicing and insight. Her role focuses on optimizing performance throughout the organization by implementing innovations in business operations across people, processes and technologies.
