On the Move: Changes at Viacom, Blue Ant, CBC

A weekly update of who's headed where in Canadian marketing and communications

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) has promoted JON GRAHAM to senior vice-president and general manager and TANYA VISANO to vice-president. Graham, who is leaving his role as the company’s Canadian GM and vice-president, has been with Viacom since 2005. In his new role, he will continue to oversee all lines of business including TV broadcast, content licensing and digital media. He’s also tasked with identifying new business and partnership opportunities. Visano, who will maintain the responsibilities held under her old title of senior director of consumer products, will also now lead the international content division through which she will oversee media and publishing for VIMN in Asia, the Americas, Europe and Middle East.

Blue Ant Media hired KATE CALDER as a senior publicist. She will develop and execute communications plans for the company’s 10 multi-platform brands, which include Love Nature, Makeful and Cottage Life. She will also support corporate and trade initiatives such as Blue Ant’s Media Solutions portfolio. Calder had previously been a publicist at Corus Entertainment for three years.

CBC appointed ABBY HO as its new head of the CBC Fullscreen Creator Network, for which she will facilitate operations for CBC’s partnership with the multi-channel network. She will oversee the development of the Creator Network and advance the public broadcaster’s YouTube strategy by retaining and acquiring new Canadian content creators while looking for new opportunities to integrate the partnership into CBC programming. Previously, Ho was in charge of CBC’s digital comedy brand Punchline.

The Institute of Communications Agencies (ICA) announced PENNY STEVENS (the current chair of Media Experts) as chair of its 2016 board of directors (pictured top). She will lead the professional business association’s newly elected board of directors, which is comprised of leaders from various Canadian communications agencies.

Bureau, a design agency from Sudbury, closed in September and partners FRANK CHARTRAND and TERRIE BARKSEY relocated to Los Angeles. Chartrand is now a UI/UX designer at Edenspiekermann while Barksey moved to Rareview, a digital agency, also in an interaction design role.
