Postmedia is getting a new head of sales with the hiring of Andrew MacLeod as executive vice-president and chief commercial officer.
MacLeod was most recently North American senior vice-president and managing director for Blackberry and will join Postmedia July 7. He steps into a role left vacant by Brandon Grosvenor’s departure for Microsoft in February.
In a release announcing the move, Postmedia CEO Paul Godfrey singled out MacLeod’s “deep understanding of consumer behaviour” in mobile as a key factor for the hire.
“At Postmedia we have some of the best media sales expertise in the country and so we looked beyond our industry to bring in a leader who could help to accelerate Postmedia’s transformation in new ways,” said Wayne Parrish, chief operating officer. “What Andrew brings to our team is a fresh approach to sales culture and customer relationship management. He will lead the team of 600 sales professionals through the reimagined Postmedia strategy.”
Change at Postmedia has been nearly constant over the last few years as the newspaper company reinvents itself for the digital era.
Other senior sales execs that have left since 2012 include Bill Neill, Simon Jennings and Shelley Middlebrook as well as the elimination of publisher roles at individual newspapers a year ago. On the editorial side of the business, Anne Marie Owens was recently named editor at the company’s largest paper the National Post.
