Sandbox adds to executive team with promotions, hires

Agency bumps Dave Rewak to VP and adds digital, media talent

Sandbox Advertising has been busy hiring and promoting staff in its Toronto office to help take on new business and better meet changing client needs.

“We are positioning ourselves for growth,” Jill King, president of Toronto-based Sandbox, told Marketing.

The promotions include Dave Rewak as vice-president and managing director from the position of director, strategic planning. King says Rewak has had “an enormous impact on the quality and culture” of the agency since joining four years ago.

“He has deep collaborative agency experience and knows how to get the best out of our team so that we do the best work for our clients,” she said in a release, calling him “an inspiring leader.”

Adam Brain will replace Rewak as director of strategic planning. The two have worked closely together in recent years, King said, while also citing Brain’s digital background and extensive agency experience as “a tremendous advantage” for Sandbox.

The agency also hired digital and content consultant Raj Dhillon as director of integrated production. Dhillon has more than a decade of advertising experience working with brands such as Boston Pizza, Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Telus and Capital One.

Her role is to lead creative content production to “set the table right in terms of the role production plays,” said King. “Raj’s integrated approach will do just that.”

Also new to the team is media director Brian Banchon, from MediaCom, where he was account director.

King says the staff changes will help the agency keep up with the growing demand for digital products and content, and at a quicker speed. They will also help with the expanding workload from new and existing clients.

King says Sandbox recently brought on board BSH Home Appliances, the company behind brands such as Bosch and Gaggenau, and resigned its agreement with the LCBO social responsibility campaign for another two years.

The changes are also part of the agency’s ongoing integration following the merger last year, when Toronto-based One Advertising joined forces with three American agencies to form Sandbox.

Sandbox’s Toronto office has about 65 employees, and a total of about 400 at its agencies across North America including in cities such as Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles and New York.
