Shafiq Jamal fills newly-created position

Shafiq Jamal has been named senior vice-president and managing director of Weber Shandwick Canada’s Vancouver office and has been tasked with expanding the agency’s presence in Western Canada.

It is a newly-created position for Weber Shandwick in Vancouver.

Jamal joins Weber Shandwick from Edelman where he was a senior vice-president in Vancouver. Prior to that, he held senior positions at the Retail Council of Canada, Hoggan + Associates, Best Buy Canada, Wilcox Group and the Canadian Red Cross Society.

“Shafiq is a respected leader with a strong entrepreneurial spirit who will contribute his deep experience in Western Canada to our collaborative, fully-integrated, client-centric operating model,” said Greg Power, president and general manager of Weber Shandwick Canada, in a statement.

Jamal has 19 years of experience in corporate communications and reputation management on both the agency and client side with experience in the corporate, technology, resources, mining, life sciences and healthcare sectors. He specializes in stakeholder strategy and engagement, crisis and issues management and media relations and training

At Weber Shandwick, Jamal will be responsible for increasing business growth and building the agency’s brand and business in Western Canada, while helping national clients across Canada. The Vancouver office is in the process of hiring additional employees.

Shafiq says he will use Weber’s “innovative Canadian network of creative, strategic and engagement experts” to accelerate growth in the Vancouver market.
