MIA Jury 2015

2015 Media Innovation Award jury wraps up deliberations

13 industry leaders have chosen their medalists and Best of Show

Marketing‘s Media Innovation Awards jury has just wrapped deliberations for the. The 13-member group knows which campaign won Best of Show (not to mention all those gold, silver and bronze winners), but the rest of the industry will have to wait until November.

The 2015 jury was co-chaired by Lisa Munro, senior director of corporate partnerships for the Edmonton Oilers, and Ann Stewart, president of Maxus Canada. Both said they are very impressed by the jury’s approach to this year’s awards.

“It’s a very passionate jury this year,” said Munro. “I’ve actually seen people sway the jury. People’s initial votes are getting turned around after some heated arguments.”

The debate was often a result of the jury’s focus on “innovation and results,” said Stewart — an effort to ensure the winning work is world-class. As a result, they were digging deep into very specific parts of the award submissions: client challenge outlines and the results found in case videos.

“That’s where they’re being the most harsh,” Munro added. “They’re not voting stuff in unless it’s industry standard. They want the bar raised this year. Maybe stuff that sneaked through in years past won’t get in this year, because it might be a repeated idea that’s just been massaged. They want true innovation.”
