Postmedia Network continues to build its executive team, naming Alvin Brouwer president, business ventures.

Brouwer comes to Postmedia from Metroland Media where he was vice-president, advertising and product development.

“Alvin’s a very creative individual who is not only creative in coming up with ideas but also great at implementing them,” said, Paul Godfrey Postmedia president and CEO. “We’ve watched him at Metroland for some time, especially his building, buying and creating websites and using them to further the cause of their digital business.”

Godfrey praised Brouwer’s use of unconventional business and ability to bring print readers to digital advertisers through promotions and flyer programs. He anticipates Brouwer will be able to translate his success within Metroland’s sizeable footprint in the Greater Toronto Area to Postmedia’s roster of daily newspapers across Canada.

“This is a great opportunity to leverage Postmedia’s strong brands, content and industry relationships,” said Brouwer, in a statement. “The exciting transformation ahead will include expanding Postmedia’s digital presence through strategic partnerships, new business models and revenue streams.”

Brouwer officially starts Sept. 7. He joins his brother Ed, Postmedia’s chief technology officer, at the new company.

This is the latest of Postmedia Network’s executive appointments, since the group acquired the newspaper assets of Canwest for $1.1 billion in July. Last week, the company named Guy Huntingford publisher of the Calgary Herald.
