Are you the 2016 Media Player of the Year?

Nominations are now open for the most accomplished, forward-thinking companies

Looking back at the companies that have been named Marketing‘s Media Player of the Year shows a field of innovative, powerful organizations. Now, the search to find this year’s honouree begins.

YouTube Canada was named Media Player of the Year in 2015 for successfully capitalizing on the powerful brand, content and audience it had been building since its inception. Audiences (especially younger ones) had long known that the online video giant was the “it” place for entertainment and information. YouTube Canada set out to make sure brands knew it too… and succeeded.

As our senior writer Russ Martin put it, “the Google-owned company proved itself as a fully realized entertainment empire complete with its own distinct culture and stable of A-list stars. For years, YouTube has been building an almost unfathomably large audience (80% of online Canadians watch YouTube every month, according to Solutions Research Group) and now marketers’ conversations about the media brand are finally starting to catch up.”

Of course YouTube had a lot of competition for its title. The List of contenders for Media Player of 2015 included three other movers and shakers in the digital space: “Canada’s exchange” CPAX, fast-moving Instagram and the fast-growing messenger app Kik.

We expect this year’s field of nominees will be just as prestigious. If you believe your company deserves to be counted among them, fill out a nomination form and tell Marketing about the innovations, accomplishments and strong business results that have defined your year.
