Astral Media Radio Inc. has been given approval by the CRTC to buy the Shore Media Group for $13.4 million, bringing the number of stations the Montreal-based media company owns in Vancouver to three.

The transaction will close in early next year, Astral said Monday.

“The addition of a third radio station in the Vancouver market will enable us to become even more competitive and to continue to impro

ve our offering to listeners and advertisers,” said Jacques Parisien, president of Astral Radio.

Astral already owns Virgin Radio 95.3 and AM 650 in Vancouver.

With its 21 television services, Astral is Canada’s largest pay and specialty TV broadcaster. The company also has 84 radio stations in 50 Canadian markets and a substantial outdoor advertising business.
