Blue Jays ALDS win attracts 4.73m viewers

Sunday's clincher the third most-watched broadcast in Sportsnet history

Game three of the American League Division Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers attracted an average audience of 4.73 million viewers on Sunday, making it the most-watched broadcast of the year on Sportsnet.

It is also the third most-watched broadcast in Sportsnet history, ranking behind game six of the 2015 American League Championship Series between Toronto and Kansas City (5.12 million) and game five of the 2015 ALDS with the Rangers (4.88 million).

More than 10 million people watched at least part of the game, with audience levels peaking at 7.03 million at 11:02 p.m., right after Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson scampered home with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning.

After the game, 2.07 million people watched Sportsnet Central’s post-game coverage, making it the show’s most-watched episode ever. Before the game, 1.43 million people, also a record high, watched the one-hour pre-game show Blue Jays Central.

Elsewhere, Sportsnet’s coverage of the first two games of the ALDS series between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians attracted an average audience of 856,000, 240% higher than last year’s (non-Jays series) between the Houston Astros and Kansas City.
