Olympic enthusiasts can keep up-to-date with all the events and news leading into the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games with the launch of an iPhone application for Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

Pre-Olympic coverage, photos and an events schedule are currently available through the free application.

The naming of the men’s Olympic hockey team, athlete injuries and coverage of the Torch Relay are examples of stories that are currently fed to the app from CTVOlympics.ca.

Alon Marcovici, vice-president of digital media and research for the Consortium, said the app falls in line with the group’s commitment to be customer- and fan-focused.

"We want to let people have the opportunity to enjoy the Games how, when and where they want to," he said.

Since launching last month, the app, developed by Toronto-based interactive design and production company Indusblue, has maintained a number five position in the app store’s free sports category, said Marcovici (as of Tuesday, it was the third most popular).

A second and enhanced version of the app will be available as a paid upgrade the first week of February. CTV has yet to set a price though Marcovici indicated it would be "super cheap."

It will include a viewer’s guide, live streaming results, medal alerts and standings, and access to various Olympic related blogs.

CTV will promote the app through PR, print, online and mobile ads once the second version is available.
