Bruce Neve steps into chair role at CMDC

The council selects new executives and brings on three new board members

Bruce Neve has taken over as chair of The Canadian Media Director’s Council (CMDC).

The SMV Group CEO took the reigns on Oct. 24, succeeding Media Experts president Penny Stevens, who held the position for two years.

Neve has also served as a councillor for the CMDC.

In a statement, Neve praised Stevens’ tenure as a productive period for the council. “As a council under Penny, we took on a lot of new initiatives, and are very pleased with our progress, so now it is up to me to build on that legacy” he said. “Our focus will be on consumer navigation and application of new technologies and ensuring that we measure what matters – and that includes leading a [joint industry committee] on set top boxes.”

Neve also identified online transparency as a chief issue the CMDC will tackle under his leadership, promising to work with stakeholders to ensure advertisers’ online media investments are protected.

MEC president Michele Pauchuk has also been selected as vice-chair of the board, while V7International president David Jowett will take on the treasurer role and OMD CEO Cathy Collier will serve as conference chair.

The CMDC also announced that three new board members have joined its ranks – Havas‘ Maura Hanley, ZenithOptimedia‘s Frank Friedman and returning board member Kevin Johnson of Mediacom.
