Cineplex unveils digital solutions unit

After acquiring Digital Display & Communications in July 2010, Cineplex Entertainment today renamed the digital signage unit Cineplex Digital Solutions (CDS).

The announcement comes with news that Labatt, a CDS client predating the Cineplex acquisition, has expanded its relationship with the company and will add 170 displays to its current network of over 500 screens in five provinces. CDS also recently landed Canucks Sports & Entertainment as a client, and will be designing and installing a digital display network inside the Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

“When we were acquired by Cineplex Entertainment, we knew it was a great opportunity as there is tremendous synergy between the two companies,” said Stuart Kirkpatrick, President, Cineplex Digital Solutions, in a statement. “Our service model networks, combined with Cineplex Digital Media’s advertising model networks, sales force and entertainment content provide significant opportunities for future growth.”

Cineplex is coming off a somewhat disappointing fourth quarter that saw revenue drop to $240.8 million for the three months ended Dec. 31, down from $247.2 million the year previous. However, its media division, which oversees on-screen and on-premise advertising, saw a 9% increase in revenues to $25.2 million. That contributed to an increase in overall profit to $10.9 million from $9.5 million.
