The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group says it has been awarded a licence from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission for an FM station in Calgary.
It said the station The PEAK will broadcast at 95.3 FM and will be “a music-intensive adult album alternative format” targeting female listeners from ages 25 to 49.
Rick Arnish, president of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group, said a date for the launch of the station is not yet set.
The company also said it has committed $8.75 million over seven years to the promotion and development of Canadian content as part of the application for the licence.
It includes $4.9 million for the Alberta PEAK Performance Project supported by the Alberta Music Industry Association.
“We’re pleased to be able to launch this new CCD initiative that will be similar to the very successful PEAK Performance Project (PPP) in Vancouver,” Arnish said in a news release.
