CTV moves Corden to main network

Programming executives believe it has the potential to become a 'breakout' hit

James Corden’s immensely popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment is about to get a larger audience, with CTV announcing this week that it plans to move his late night talk show, The Late Late Show, from CTV Two to the main CTV network, effective Feb. 8.

His show will follow The Daily Show with Trevor Noah at 12:35 a.m. To accommodate the move, CTV is moving Late Night with Seth Myers to CTV Two.

Mike Cosentino, senior vice-president of programming for CTV Networks and CraveTV, said that Corden has emerged as a “breakthrough force” in the late night landscape.

“This timely move to CTV, combined with the Februrary Sweeps period, will be a good test to see if the show can be a breakout late night hit for CTV,” he said in a statement.

The Late Late Show with James Corden is averaging 69,000 viewers on CTV Two, while Late Night with Seth Myers is attracting an average of 188,000 viewers on CTV.

Corden is currently riding a wave of positive press, with his recent “Carpool Karaoke” segment with Adele racing up 42 million views in its first five days on YouTube to become the most viral video any late-night show has produced since 2013. It has now surpassed 62 million views.

He was also named host of the 70th annual Tony Awards on Tuesday.
