Ewart tapped to lead Chatelaine

Rogers Media’s flagship consumer title Chatelaine has named Karine Ewart editor-in-chief, effective Jan. 13.

Ewart joined Rogers in 2011 as editor-in-chief of Today’s Parent, helping grow its readership and playing a key role in the launch of Today’s Parent Approved. She started her career as an assistant editor at Harper’s Bazaar in the U.S., before taking on roles with Fashion and Fashion18.

With Chatelaine, Ewart will be charged with continuing the magazine’s momentum and expanding its brand across multiple platforms. The publication is currently available across seven platforms: Pprint, online, tablet, mobile, TV, radio and merchandise.

Announcing the appointment Wednesday, Steve Maich, senior vice-president and general manager of publishing at Rogers Media, said that Ewart has demonstrated the required leadership, vision, enthusiasm and business savvy to lead Chatelaine.

“Karine is one of Canada’s best magazine editors,” said Maich in a release. “She has a deep and intuitive sense of what readers want and need, and he has a deep passon for the place Chatelaine holds in the hearts of Canadian women.”

“I am truly honoured to be selected to lead such an iconic brand, one that resides in the hearts of so many Canadian women,” added Ewart. “I look forward to building on the momentum Chatelaine is currently experiencing, leading the wonderful team there and nurturing the strong releationship Chatelaine has developed with its audiences.”
