The head of Facebook Canada has been tapped to lead a new global team serving some of the social network’s biggest brands.

Jordan Banks, who joined Facebook Canada as managing director in 2010 following a six year stint in the same position at eBay Canada, will now lead Facebook’s global vertical strategy team, a newly created group of Facebook’s senior leaders who will set the strategic vision for how marketers use Facebook across categories.

In addition to his duties as managing director of Facebook Canada, Banks and this team will look for specific advertising solutions to meet the business needs of each of its verticals, including retail, consumer packaged goods, financial service, travel and automotive.

Because Banks is the lead, the team will be headquartered in Toronto.

Steve Irvine, Facebook’s Toronto-based group director of global marketing solutions, will also be part of the new team. Additional leaders from Facebook’s markets around the globe will be added in the coming weeks.

As global vertical strategy lead, Banks will report to Carolyn Everson, vice-president of global marketing solutions. In a statement, Everson said, “Jordan has effectively led our Canadian operations since 2010, guiding his team to a demonstrated history of success in providing tailored business solutions to key Canadian marketers and brands. I’m thrilled that in addition to continuing to lead the Facebook Canada business, Jordan will also take on an expanded responsibility.”

“In this new position, Jordan will lead the global team responsible for identifying and developing strategies and initiatives focused on transforming businesses in our key industry categories across the world.”
