Charles Dalfen, a champion of home-grown Canadian television in his former role as chair of the CRTC, has died.
Dalfen’s law firm, Torys LLP, said the telecommunications expert suffered a heart attack Tuesday afternoon. He was 66.
Dalfen served as chair of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission from 2002 to 2006, during which time he became known for celebrating Canadian TV success stories like Corner Gas. Before and after that term he provided communications expertise to the Toronto law firm.
“Charles was… a team player and a real gentleman,” said Les Viner, managing partner of Torys, in a release.
“Charles was a formidable mind in his field, inspiring others to excellence by his force of example, and his presence added real lustre to the firm. He was truly a remarkable man.”
