Veteran Globe and Mail political reporter Jane Taber is joining National Public Relations as its vice-president of public affairs in Toronto, in a move the PR firm calls “a real game changer.”
Taber will bring clients “unique insight” into the political and policy landscape and the inner workings of media, says Ronald Alepian, Toronto-based senior vice-president, corporate and financial communications at National and general manager of National Equicom.
“This really is exciting not only for our firm, but for what we can offer clients,” Alepian says, noting National is strengthening its team with new senior hires “largely at the request of clients that are looking for more insight and different perspectives.”
Rick Murray, managing partner and chief digital strategist at National in Toronto, described the acquisition of Taber as a “real game changer in Toronto and beyond” in an email to employees.
Taber’s 30 years of experience covering elections, policy and the inner workings of government at the federal and provincial levels in Ontario and Atlantic Canada “really changes the perspective that we can bring to our clients,” Alepian says. “When you bring that level of experience to the table, it’s always a game-changer.”
Taber spent 25 years covering Parliament Hill for the Ottawa Citizen, National Post and Globe and Mail. She was also the co-host of CTV’s Question Period from 2005 to 2011. Most recently Taber, who joined the Globe and Mail in 2002, was covering politics for the newspaper from Ontario after a three year stint as Atlantic bureau chief.
Taber starts at National on Sept. 6.
