iHeartRadio expands into Canada with Bell Media

Canada is the fourth national market for the five-year-old digital radio service

Bell Media and iHeartRadio are creating a partnership to share and deliver digital radio content to a wide range of devices such as smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles and automotive entertainment systems.

iHeartRadio is a relatively new business launched in the United States in 2011 that will be launching in Canada this year through the partnership, which will deliver both traditional radio content as well as streaming music and radio.

BCE’s Bell Media has 106 licensed radio stations across Canada — mostly acquired with the purchases of Toronto-based Chum and Montreal-based Astral Media.

The companies said iHeartRadio would offer listeners in Canada access to all of Bell Media’s radio content and to iHeartRadio events.

They didn’t disclose financial terms of the arrangement or a specific date for the content to be available in Canada.

Canada will become the fourth national market for iHeartRadio, after the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

“This partnership allows us to connect with even more music fans and radio listeners and we know Canadians will enjoy the service as much as our listeners in the U.S,” said iHeartRadio’s president Darren Davis.
