The big social networks are still trying to get their paid advertising models right, but that hasn’t stopped marketers from making them the top destination for digital display ads in Canada.

While much social marketing is still being done using the free tools at everyone’s disposal, more than one-quarter of all online display impressions were served through social media properties in 2012, according to the most recent “Canada: Digital Future in Focus” report from comScore. And with smartphone penetration now at 62%, also according to comScore, the future of social advertising looks increasingly mobile.
