Metro, the free daily newspaper publisher, has added the role of vice-president, creative to its senior management team and hired Jeff Smith to fill the role.

The role is designed to provide high-level leadership over the paper’s creative department, which offers ad clients strategies and concepts for things like wraps, print and digital ads and special creative projects. Metro describes Smith’s role as providing “innovative solutions that will integrate with the Metro brand on all of its platforms and across all of its businesses” — an area Metro is looking to expand.

Smith, most recently associate vice-president of digital marketing and merchandising at TD Bank, will report to Metro English president Bill McDonald.

Torstar Corporation is Metro‘s majority owner. Metro International S.A. is a minority owner in Canada.
