Knightscove Media Corp., a distributor of family movies and TV shows, says it has struck a deal to acquire 51% of Toronto-based RSKB Communications Inc.

The small cash and share deal will see Knightscove take control of RSKB, the owner of SouthAsianLife.com, a website that caters to the Indian and Pakistani community and others from southern Asia in Canada.

The site provides original daily coverage of politics, personalities, entertainment, fashion and food.

Under the deal, RSKB chief executive Raaj Brar will become president of Knightscove’s newly formed digital division.

The company said it will benefit commercially from Brar’s extensive knowledge on the buying habits, media habits, product preferences and cultural idiosyncrasies of the two million South Asians who live in Canada.

Thursday’s deal comes after the recent acquisition of FDR Media Group Inc. and its Bollywood Times and Mehndi TV operations.

“Our intention in building Knightscove has always been to leverage all content across all platforms,” said Len Bristow, CEO of Knightscove.

“With the involvement of someone as uniquely talented in the digital world as Mr. Brar, his knowledge of Canada’s largest visible minority will position us to effectively manage our broadcast and digital initiatives.

“An additional advantage to having Knightscove Digital is that it will allow us to begin transitioning our proprietary libraries, including the recently acquired Ellis Entertainment library of over 600 titles, to online applications for rental and purchase.”
