Radio programming in Alberta was disrupted when a man armed with a handgun entered the CBC building in Calgary early Sunday morning.
Inspector Chris Butler said the man got into the foyer of the building shortly before 2 a.m. on Sunday but a locked door that requires a swipe card prevented him from getting further inside.
A security guard inside the building noticed the man and alerted police, who set up a containment area around the building and shut down traffic.
Butler said no shots were fired and the man eventually surrendered at around 7 a.m.
CBC Calgary news director Chris Budge said all of Alberta’s early-Sunday morning programming on Radio 1 originates out of Calgary, so the station had to run Saskatchewan’s morning program instead.
Police say it’s not clear yet what the man wanted.
