There’s a new role at The Globe and Mail – vice-president, marketing and audience intelligence – and Alon Marcovici is stepping in to fill it.
Most recently executive vice-president, digital media at CTV, Marcovici starts on June 20 and will oversee brand and consumer marketing and sponsorships. He’ll also lead a project focused on enhancing the paper’s “audience intelligence.”
Marcovici said in a release that he’s excited to market the national newspaper’s news gathering and distribution capabilities across all media, especially given the growing number of media platforms accessible to Canadians today.
The role was created to develop deeper audience intelligence and better connect content with the audience needs, said Phillip Crawley, the national daily’s publisher and CEO. Marcovici’s position will also help provide insight-based advertising solutions for the company’s clients.
Marcovici’s background in digital also includes a post as vice-president, digital media for Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium. He oversaw digital efforts and research activities for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games and subsequently won a Gemini award for Outstanding Technical Achievement in Digital Media.
He has also done stints as vice-president and chief marketing officer of the Toronto Board of Trade, vice-president of marketing and communications for the NHL’s Florida Panthers, and director of marketing media with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
