Okay, so it’s the stuff of slow news days, but earlier this week Marketing logged its 40,000th follower on Twitter.

Melanie Abbot of Toronto was the landmark “follow,” and will get a free subscription for her good timing and taste. “I actually haven’t been using Twitter that long and just started to follow companies that would keep me in the marketing loop,” she says. In fact she’s only tweeted eight times so far.

Marketing currently holds second place in the Canadian magazine Twitter follower contest that we just invented, trouncing fellow Rogers publications Maclean’s, Canadian Business and Flare.
