The company said that Channer would be responsible for bringing a “new perspective” to its thought leadership and management of key accounts, while playing a “pivotal role” in its new business development strategy and marketing initiatives.

MediaCom’s chief client officer Kevin Johnson, who himself joined the agency last month from Havas Media, said in a release that Channer’s passion and experience “exemplifies the direction,” the company is pursuing.

“He is a great addition to our team and dedicated to helping us deliver tangible business results for our clients,” said Johnson in a release.

Channer comes to MediaCom from OgilvyAction, transferring to its Montreal office on a two-year contract in 2011 after spending nearly six years as its London-based European business director. His previous career stops have also included TBWA, Publicis Chemistry and Pepper Corporation. His category expertise spans finance, beverage and travel.

“Joining MediaCom was one of the easiest decisions I have ever made,” said Channer in a release. “Even after a few weeks in the company, I have been blown away by the energy, passion and drive that surround me from the moment I walk in the door until the moment I leave.”

MediaCom was the third-ranked agency on RECMA’s most recent “Overall Activity Rankings” report, with 2013 activity – a blend of billing and other services including digital – of $840 million, unchanged from the previous year. MediaCom controls an estimated 9.7% of Canada’s $8.6 billion media market.
