Michael Hill augments reality with The Bachelor

Shoppers get their own proposal from Tim Warmels

Having joined forces with The Bachelor Canada to supplying the City show’s diamond engagement ring, Michael Hill Jewellers has now partnered with media services firm Media Experts and bachelor Tim Warmels to create an augmented reality experience for shoppers.

In select malls in Ontario and B.C., customers have been able to immerse themselves in a Bachelor experience thanks to Media Experts, PixelPusher.ca, Launch! and Data Armada.

Michael Hill’s “Bachelor Canada Experience” connected with over 12,000 Canadians and recorded over 2,000 proposals. One woman’s experience was augmented one step further. When shopper Karolina was talking to the virtual Tim Warmels, he explained that someone else would be proposing to her – her boyfriend, Kingsley. A virtual Kingsley popped the question to his stunned girlfriend, but the real Kingsley came out from behind the screen to place the ring on her finger.

“The proposal is such a memorable part of any relationship. It becomes a story that people will retell for years,” said Media Experts’ chief procurement officer Richard Ivey. “Even people in the presence of two people committing to each other can’t help but become enthralled. We wanted to create that memorable experience for a couple.”
