You might not be able to fight city hall, but a Montreal outdoor advertising firm has been given permission to wrap it.
Montreal-based Madigan Communications has been granted permission by council to erect ad-supported protective netting around City Hall during an upcoming restoration project.
The netting, which is used to protect pedestrians and workers from falling construction debris, has been used at construction sites in cities including New York, Paris, Prague and Beijing.
The netting helps “enhance the esthetic value of buildings under restoration” and provides advertisers with a “new, innovative outdoor medium in key downtown locations,” said Madigan president and CEO Jean Claude Henri, in a release.
Madigan says the netting will cover all four sides of City Hall during the estimated three-year renovation project, providing a venue for advertisers as well as for promoting city services, upcoming summer festivals or the annual F1 race.
Madigan first unveiled the ad-supported netting last year on a Bay store in downtown Montreal. The wraps featured ads for both Air Transat and the Sony Bravia TV.
