NBA finals score big for TSN

Ratings for this year's series 35% greater than second most-watched

King James’ coronation was a ratings hit for TSN Sunday, as 1.2 million people watched LeBron James lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to the first championship in franchise history (and the city’s first championship since 1964).

Ratings for this year’s NBA Finals were 35% higher than the second most-watched NBA Finals, the 2010 showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics.

Approximately 4.3 million unique Canadian viewers watched at least part of Game 7 according to preliminary overnight numbers from Numeris. The game went up against two other Bell Media properties: The season finale of HBO’s Game of Thrones on HBO, and the iHeartRadio MMVAs on Much.

Audience levels for Game 7 peaked at 1.73 million viewers with the game tied at 89-89 late in the fourth quarter, when the Cavaliers’ Kyrie Irving hit a clutch three-pointer that put Cleveland ahead for good.

An average of 870,000 viewers watched the four NBA Finals games broadcast on TSN.
