Maybe there’s something to the CBC’s much-discussed digital strategy after all.
The public broadcaster announced this week that more than 30 million Canadians have tuned into its coverage of the FIFA World Cup since the tournament began on June 12, with approximately one in six—more than 5.8 million people—watching live game coverage on a digital platform.
There have been more than one million downloads of its Bell-sponsored CBC FIFA World Cup app, while Canadians have consumed more than 10 million hours of content across its various digital platforms.
The app offers live streaming coverage of each match via six live feeds. Other features include near-live highlights and an array of social media feeds enabling users to share clips, photos and news—along with their thoughts—to their online followers.
