Outfront Media (formerly CBS Outdoor Canada) has seen the light in Calgary.
The out-of-home advertising company announced this week that it has introduced solar-powered transit shelters throughout Canada’s fourth largest city. The rollout incorporates 100 advertising faces.
The new shelter design is from Toronto-based Daytech Limited, which has supplied transit shelters to several major markets including Toronto and San Francisco. The company has retrofitted existing shelters with solar panels and battery packs.
Outfront has situated the shelters in parts of the city where connecting to the electrical grid is not feasible.
The company controls more than half (54%) of the out-of-home inventory in the Calgary census metropolitan area (CMA), and more than 84% of street furniture faces as part of an exclusive contract with the city.
Outfront changed its name from CBS Outdoor Canada last month following its separation from its parent company CBS Corporation, which sold a minority stake in the out-of-home ad company in March and divested the remaining 81% of the company in June. Outfront subsequently converted into a real estate investment trust.
The company is in the midst of changing the nameplates on its approximately 12,000 Canadian ad faces, a process expected to last three months.
