Andy Querin has stepped down as president and chief operating officer of Zoom Media after almost nine years with the company.

“I’ve been president for the past four years and before that I was vice-president of sales and marketing, so it’s really about me looking for the next challenge,” said Querin. “While at Zoom, we built the company and I gained some valuable experience through the private equity raise, where we raised $30 million, and I lead a series of acquisitions as well. I’ve seen my management team grow to the point that the company is in great hands, with a lot of talented and experienced people. I just felt I would get out while on top and things were good.”

In the meantime, company chairman François de Gaspé Beaubien has taken a more hands-on role in Canadian operations until another president is hired.

“I think the world of Andy and am sorry to see him go,” said de Gaspé Beaubien. “But this is giving me the wonderful opportunity to dive back into the Canadian operations. I won’t be able to run global and Canada for the next year, but I’m having too much fun right now to give it up. I’ll appoint a new president sometime in 2011, but I’m in no rush.”

Querin said he’ll be spending time with his two young children before taking the next career step.

What that next step will be, Querin’s not sure, but he does have some ideas.

“I don’t have anything lined up right now,” he said. “I come from a broadcast background. I was at CBC before Zoom, and I have out-of-home experience, so my toolbox isn’t entirely full yet. I love OOH and if the right opportunity came up I’d stay, but I’m definitely up for branching out. The silos at most companies are breaking down, so it’s a lot about integrated offers. We were starting to get there at Zoom, but I’d like to do more of that.”
