Ethan Ross will lead Score Media‘s newly formed New York sales office as vice-president of digital sales as the sports media company looks to expand its brand where baseball, football and NASCAR rule.

Ross, who has previously led digital and mobile sales at Millennial Media and XOS Sports, has been tasked with developing Score’s U.S. sales strategy.

“The growth of our ScoreMobile platform in the United States has been explosive and requires a dedicated advertising sales force,” said John Levy, chairman and CEO of Score Media, in a release. “Through our extensive search, we have identified Ethan as the perfect candidate to lead our U.S. sales group and we want to take this as an opportunity to officially welcome him to our team.”

Score has had international ambitions for quite some time. It launched a soccer-specific mobile app in June 2010 to reach the sport’s massive global audience despite the fact it’s still finding its feet in Canada. That was followed up with a Spanish version in June, 2011.

Score mobile apps have found sizable audiences – approximately 3 million users per month, according to comScore. The company’s July data shows the combined audiences for ScoreMobile, ScoreMobile FC and the recently acquired SportsTap app is larger than the relevant mobile crowds for Fox or CBS.

“ScoreMobile’s U.S. user penetration is very compelling,” said Ross in a release. “As the U.S. mobile market continues to expand, the company’s ability to deliver… sports content to users on their personal devices presents marketers with a unique and cost effective way to reach a targeted audience. I’m excited to join the team to grow and effectively monetize this emerging platform.”
