The School of Graphics Communications Management (GCM) at Ryerson University in Toronto inaugurated its first flexo press, a Comco Cadet seven-inch narrow web, at a reception held on December 3rd.
Among the packaging industry guests at the event are from the left: GCM student Stephanie McIntosh; Ian Baitz, associate professor, GCM; student Nate Plavnick; Bettylyn Krafft, chair, Phoenix Challenge Foundation; Ron Schroder, strategic markets manager, Williamson Printing Materials Ltd. and chair of the Canadian Flexographic Training Committee (CFTC); student Hannah Plavnick; and Mark Cisternino, president, Flexographic Technical Association (FTA). The students are graduates of the Flexo in High School Program at Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School in Mississauga, Ontario, and all are past members of winning teams in the Phoenix Challenge, an international high school flexographic skills competition.
The flexo press was donated to the School by the FTA, with the CFTC providing funds for the logistics and installation. The University will provide training and maintenance on the new press.
