The CBC has parted ways with general manager of media sales and marketing Dave Scapillati.

Jeff Keay, head of media relations for CBC, confirmed Scapillati’s departure today, but provided no further details. “We want to thank Dave for all his efforts, particularly in the last six months—which have been particularly difficult,” said Keay.

Scott Moore, the executive director of CBC Sports, has been appointed interim general manager of media sales and marketing, while his role will be filled by his second in command David Masse.

“Scott’s going to work closely with the media sales and marketing team as we go forward,” said Keay. “We’re currently considering our options with respect to permanently filling the general manager spot. We haven’t actually started a search yet, but we’re in the process of considering our options.”

Keay wouldn’t provide a timetable for when a permanent replacement for Scapillati will be named.

Scapillati joined the CBC in 2006, one in a series of former Coca-Cola Canada executives to fill the head sales and marketing role at the public broadcaster. He was preceded by Doug Brooks, who left CBC to become managing director of NHL Enterprises Canada and who is currently CEO of the Certified General Accountants of Ontario, and Chris Jordan, who is now president and CEO of Young & Rubicam Canada.

Prior to joining CBC, Scapalliti was vice-president of marketing for Prime Restaurants of Canada.

Keay also said that Jack Tomik, a longtime sales executive for Canwest who left the company in a 2004 management shakeup, is joining CBC in an advisory role in “a range of areas, including strategy.” His appointment is effective Tuesday.
