Shane Schick has been hired as Marketing‘s editor-in-chief, capping a five-month search to find the next editorial leader of the 107-year-old publication.
Schick has more than 15 years of experience as a business journalist with a focus on the technology sector. He is the former vice-president of content and community at IT World Canada, overseeing the editorial direction of several media entities including ComputerWorld Canada, Network World Canada, ITBusiness.ca and DirectionInformatique.com, among others.
“We’re thrilled Shane is joining Marketing as editor-in-chief,” said newly appointed publisher Alison Wood. “He’s an award-winning journalist, innovator, and relationship-builder. Finding someone who has the breadth of experience Shane has in creating and growing multi-platform content, in addition to ideating and developing events, makes him the perfect person to lead Marketing as we continue our long history of serving the industry.”
The editor-in-chief’s desk has been empty since David Thomas announced his departure in August to take over as editor-in-chief of MoneySense (which, like Marketing and MarketingMag.ca, is owned by Rogers Media).
Schick joins Marketing as it prepares for a revamped 2016 editorial program. While it continues to develop its digital presence across MarketingMag.ca, 12 e-newsletters and a sizeable social media footprint, the brand is shifting its print product to a quarterly schedule to focus on key issues in the Canadian industry.
