Shaw Communications reports lower Q3 net earnings on flat revenue

Revenue up 1% to $1.34 billion, net Q3 income of $228 million

Cable and media company Shaw Communications Inc. reports a lower third-quarter net income of $228 million, or 47 cents per share.

Calgary-based Shaw missed analysts’ expectations on earnings per share by two cents.

In the same quarter last year, Shaw earned a net profit of $250 million, or 52 cents per share.

Revenue in the quarter was $1.34 billion, up 1% year-over-year.

Revenue in the company’s cable division vision was $845 million, an increase of 2%, while revenue in the media division was $301 million, down from $307 million year-over-year.

The company’s satellite TV operations had revenue of $220 million in the quarter, up from $218 in the same quarter last year.
