Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter are the runaway leaders among in terms of driving traffic to online publishers, according to a new study from the U.S. firm Shareaholic released Tuesday.
According to the Social Media Traffic Trends report, the three social media companies accounted for 15.2% of total publisher traffic last month. The report is based on 13 months of data collected from more than 200,000 publishers (including those in Canada) with a combined audience of more than 250 million unique monthly visitors.
Report author Danny Wong told Marketing that Canada is among the top five countries when it comes to sending visitors to Shareaholic’s global network of publishers.
Pinterest saw the biggest year-over-year increase, with its referrals increasing 66.5% over last year. Its growth is particularly interesting in light of the fact it recently began experimenting with paid advertising, said the study.
Year-over-year referrals from Facebook grew 58.8%, while Twitter grew 54.1%.
The study also found that YouTube and LinkedIn are rapidly growing, with their share of overall traffic to publishing increasing 52.9% and 34.5% respectively, with LinkedIn’s growth attributed to its Influencers program.
