Four-year-old Canadian men’s magazine Toro is shutting down immediately.

In a press release, Toro publisher Dinah Quattrin cited a limited advertising pool in the men’s category, rising costs and a lack of government funding for the decision. Between 2003 and 2005, the magazine received 48 National Magazine Award nominations, winning a number of awards in categories like investigative journalism, fashion photography, still-life photography and column writing.

“Even a very high-quality book like Toro can, at best, manage to sustain itself,” said Quattrin. “The prospect of significant profits wasn’t in the foreseeable future.”

The March issue, slated for release Feb. 20, won’t be distributed.
