Streaming wars heat up with CraveTV announcement

Bell Media-owned service available to all Canadians early next year

Bell Media‘s streaming service CraveTV will be available to all Canadians beginning Jan. 1.

The service is currently available only to subscribers of certain television providers, including Bell, Eastlink and Telus.

A spokesman for Bell Media would not confirm pricing details.

The service currently costs $4 per month and features the entire off-air library of HBO programming, plus series including Seinfeld, South Park, Orphan Black and many Showtime properties.

CraveTV competitor Shomi announced in May it would soon be available to all Canadians as well.

Once exclusive to Rogers and Shaw customers, Shomi will open up to the rest of the country in late September.

That service costs $8.99 per month, while Netflix starts at $7.99 monthly.
