Transcontinental’s TC Media division said Wednesday that it has acquired the print and internet publishing assets of weekly newspaper Courrier Frontenac, based in Thetford Mines, Que.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

With a circulation of more than 22,000 copies, the weekly paper serves Thetford Mines and surrounding area in the Chaudiere-Appalaches region, located between Montreal and Quebec City on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River.

The acquisition also includes the portal CourrierFrontenac.qc.ca, which reaches more than 25,000 individual visitors a month.

“With this acquisition, TC Media adds its first weekly paper to its existing offering in the Chaudiere-Appalaches region,” TC Media said in a news release.

TC Media division recently bought educational and trade book publisher Les Editions Caractere for an undisclosed amount.

It has said it will reorganize its French-language publishing business to incorporate Les Editions Caractere with its current Cheneliere Education and Les Editions Transcontinental to form a new Books division to be headed by Cheneliere president Jacques Rochefort.

TC Media is also the leading provider of local and regional information in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces through its network of community papers and online portals. It’s the co-owner of the Metro weekday daily in Montreal and Halifax.

TC Media also bills itself as the leading door-to-door distributor of advertising material in Canada, with Publisac in Quebec and Targeo in the rest of Canada.
