Printer and publisher Transcontinental’s TC Media division has bought educational and trade book publisher Les Editions Caractere for an undisclosed amount.

TC Media said Monday it will reorganize its French-language publishing business to incorporate Les Editions Caractere with its current Cheneliere Education and Les Editions Transcontinental to form a new Books division to be headed by Cheneliere president Jacques Rochefort.

“This transaction makes TC Media the top player in Quebec’s supplemental educational publishing market, accelerating its growth in this strategic niche that was already in development within the company,” TC Media said.

Les Editions Caractere publishes the Toute mon annee, Les Incollables, Reussir son examen d’admission au secondaire and Plus de 30 tests pour reussir educational supplements.

“Given its expertise and unique network, both in commercial terms and in editorial content, Les Editions Caractere is the acknowledged leader in the supplemental publishing market in Quebec,” Rochefort said in a statement.

Les Editions Caractere subsidiary Editions 400 Coups is not included in the acquisition.
