TD partners with Flybits to elevate mobile app

New platform will deliver more personalized mobile experiences for customers

Mobile banking with TD is about to get more personal.

The financial services company has partnered with Toronto-based mobile developer Flybits, whose cloud-based software program delivers contextual experiences to app users.

Flybits’ mobile platform will be integrated into the TD app. The idea is to create experiences for customers based on their context, including location and demographics, to offer a greater degree of personalization.

The “context-as-a-service” solution takes into account where customers are, who are they are, and what are they trying to do, said Rizwan Khalfan, SVP and chief digital officer at TD. It then “delivers an experience in the form of content and services that can make their lives easier, simpler and more enriching.”

For example, the Flybits solution will allow TD to deliver personalized financial advice where and when customers need it. There is also the potential to create exclusive mobile experiences with local merchants and at sporting events.

“If you’re going to the Rogers Centre for a baseball game, [we’ll look for a way to] deliver content and services to you to make your experience a lot more fulfilling and enriching,” said Khalfan.

Additional details about how the Flybits solution is integrated and used will be made available early next year.

TD, which launched its Apple Watch app this past spring, also plans to bring the Flybits service to wearable devices in the future.

“Every aspect of our lives has changed as a result of our adoption and engagement of the mobile device,” said Khalfan. “That trend continues and it may continue into wearables and other devices, but that’s where we need to continue to make the investments so we can stay connected to the customer.”
