Theresa Treutler is stepping down as president and CEO of the Television Bureau of Canada (TVB), the organization announced today. Treutler has been with the TVB since 2007.

A replacement has not been announced. A release announcing her departure said Treutler would remain with the organization through December to ensure a “smooth transition.”

“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the [TVB] for the past seven years,” said Treutler, in a release. “Deciding to leave was not easy, especially when you love what you do.”

The release said Treutler, who spent three years as senior vice-president, media director at Doner Canada prior to joining TVB, would pursue “new opportunities” in 2015.

Her seven-year stint with the TVB coincided with a period of accelerated change within the television industry, as the growth of specialty services, combined with changing viewing habits and the arrival of streaming services like Netflix, change how Canadians consume traditional TV.

The changes led the CRTC to consider a significant overhaul of the Canadian broadcast system at its recent “Let’s Talk TV” hearings.

Treutler’s resume also includes board and committee work with the Broadcast Executives Society, the Canadian Association of Broadcast Representatives, and the Numeris (formerly BBM Canada) TV executive committee.
