Transcontinental Media has added three eastern Quebec community newspapers to its holdings with the acquisition of a small publishing company.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Montreal-based subsidiary of printer and media publisher Transcontinental said Monday that it acquired the majority of the assets of Avantage Consommateurs de l’Est du Quebec Inc., held by Gonzague Drapeau.

The assets include print and electronic publications stretching from St-Simeon to Gaspe. The largest of these is the weekly Rimouski community paper L’Avantage votre journal, founded in 1996.

Avantage Consommateurs already had a partnership with Transcontinental to distribute advertising flyers contained in its Publisac to more than 91,000 area households. That distribution network now will be entirely owned by Transcontinental.

Transcontinental Media said local businesses will gain access to its integrated digital offering, which provides a full line of media and marketing solutions to improve the online visibility of small- and medium-sized businesses.

Transcontinental Media has more than 3,000 employees and $608 million in annual revenues.
