Canadian media company and publisher Transcontinental Inc. has hired former Transat executive Nelson Gentiletti as its new chief financial officer and head of corporate development, effective Dec. 5.

Gentiletti replaces Benoit Huard, who will leave the company at the annual shareholders’ meeting in February, following a transition period. Huard has been CFO since 2006 and is leaving following a “mutual decision” reached with the company.

Gentiletti left the tour company as its chief operating officer in September. He will report to Transcontinental CEO Francois Olivier and be a member of the executive management committee.

Olivier said Gentiletti’s operational experience will help strengthen Transcontinental’s new marketing activities.

Prior to joining Transat in 2002, the Concordia and McGill University graduate was chief financial officer at Unican Security Systems Ltd., and BCE Emergis.

Transcontinental is the largest printer in Canada and a leading publisher of consumer magazines and French-language educational resources, and of community and daily newspapers in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces. Employing 10,000 employees in Canada and the United States, it had $2.1 billion of revenues in 2010.
