Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre will receive this year’s Sir Peter Ustinov Comedy Award at the Banff World Media Festival.

Lorre, whose long list of credits also includes The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly, Roseanne and Cybill will receive the prize June 12.

The TV guru made headlines last year when he was the target of barbs from former Two and a Half Men star Charlie Sheen, who was fired from the sitcom.

The Ustinov prize recognizes outstanding comedic contribution to the media industry. Past recipients include John Cleese, Martin Short, Kelsey Grammer, Rick Mercer, Ricky Gervais and James Burrows.

Lorre will receive the honour during the Banff World Media Awards, also known as Rockies.

“Chuck Lorre has provided comedic relief through his stand-out television shows to audiences around the world for decades,” Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Banff World Media Festival, said in a statement.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to celebrate his career and to hear his keen point of view on the current state of comedy in television at this year’s festival.”
